“Florida – like it used to be.”
This is a rare and complete collection of original oils by Albert Ernest Backus and all 26 of the Florida Highwaymen he inspired.
These 27 Florida Regionalists of the Indian River School beget what has been called "the last great American art movement of the 20th century."
Each of these painters has been inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame.
The highlight of this private collection is an idyllic Florida landscape by Backus, below, painted in 1984. The collection was recently completed with the purchase of a hard-to-find piece by Alfonso Moran.
