When Dan McLaughlin was in grade school, his dad dipped into the family cookie jar and put out 600-bucks - a whopping sum at the time – for his son to study at the Art Instruction Schools of Minnesota.

FLORIDA, MAINE, WASHINGTON, D.C., AFRICA
University classes in drawing, painting and the fine arts followed, after which Dan packed up his paints and brushes – for 32 years.
In the summer of 2007, following the death of his dad, Dan dusted off his old travel box and bought some fresh oils and a new plein air easel.
Two summers later, he studied plein air painting under Frederick Markham of The Art League in Alexandria, VA.
Sales of his work have been increasing steadily, and some of his works have been displayed along with paintings by two other Florida artists in Washington, D.C.
In the fall of 2009, he won recognition in a national competition open to artists using Lukas oil colors, sponsored by The World of Art.
More recently, one of his oils, Toward the 'Glades, below, sold for a $790 in a major charity auction.
Born in Michigan, Dan was raised in the Tampa Bay area. He currently works in the field of political communications.
He has been an adjunct university instructor and guest lecturer. He also has traveled extensively.
His art and contemporary impressionist style is influenced mostly by Florida Regionalist painters.
A leading art expert and curator has said of his site, "Excellent paintings. ... well presented and reasonably priced. ... testimony to the increasing value of work by contemporary Florida Regionalists and the state's ongoing art tradition."
We hope you agree.
